- Discuss the significance of Nelson Mandela and what he symbolizes for the nation.

- Discuss the similarities and difference between social, political, and institutional form of racial inequality in the United States and South Africa.
Class Activity
This activity will allow students to understand the sociopolitical factors associated with Apartheid, so that they may gain a better understanding of the history, legislation, and lived experiences of South Africans from a variety of perspectives. First, divide the class into three research groups. The first group should research the South African government under Apartheid, the second should focus on the experiences of black South Africans during Apartheid, and the third will research organizations and individuals that played a significant role in ending Apartheid in South Africa. After the groups have colleted their information have them present their findings to the entire class.
